Living Lab in Practice: How We’ve Been Using AI
Inside the real-world experiments, tools, and collaborative research emerging from the Art Borups Corners Living Lab.
This workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the Art Borups Corners Living Lab and the Arts Incubator Winnipeg have been integrating AI into participatory arts research, community development, and creative entrepreneurship. Participants will explore practical examples of how AI has been used to support artists, youth teams, and rural organizations across Northwestern Ontario and beyond.
The session highlights projects ranging from AI-assisted grant writing and organizational workflow design to experimental storytelling systems, digital archives, impact assessments and collaborative multimedia creation. Participants will also learn how the Living Lab has explored multi-agent AI systems, archival remixing, metadata organization, and accessible creative tools designed specifically for non-technical users.
We will also learn about outcomes from last year’s research that was supported by the OpenAI Researcher Access Program.
Grounded in principles of digital equity and low-barrier access, the workshop demonstrates how AI can help small organizations increase capacity without losing human connection, local knowledge, or cultural integrity. The focus remains firmly on community empowerment: using technology to reduce barriers, expand participation, and create more time for meaningful creative work.
