Actions and Examples of SDG 5 (Gender Equality)

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, recognizing it as a fundamental human right and a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Despite progress, gender inequality persists, with women and girls facing discrimination based on factors such as race, ethnicity, geography, income, education, religion, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, and migrant or refugee status. SDG 5 calls for action to address these limitations and promote opportunities for women and girls.

Northern Community Consultation Notes

This summer, our Niriqatiginnga project team spent a lot of time consulting and engaging several community partners here in Winnipeg, and in Northern Manitoba. Many communities, especially in the north, are struggling with a number of critical challenges and we thought we would share some of them here.

With a dedicated focus on sustainability, we’ve woven these global goals into the fabric of the Niriqatiginnga project and its activities.

Our program is a pilot program aimed at building organizational capacity for arts administration, skills development and training. It was seeded by funding from the Canada Council of the Arts and Manitoba Arts Council. Today, our work continues with support from non-profit organizations such as Niriqatiginnga.
