Production Script for The Bronco's Last Stand
EXT. WAREHOUSE DISTRICT - NIGHT
A rusted 1978 Ford Bronco barrels down a deserted street.
The rear passenger door sags, a mangled ruin of composite and shattered glass. The window frame is BULGED INWARD.
INT. BRONCO - CONTINUOUS
SILAS (60s), face a roadmap of hard miles, grips the steering wheel, knuckles bone-white. He glances at the rearview mirror.
A flash of HARSH BLUE LIGHT, low and fast.
He mouths a curse, a dry, silent motion.
The Bronco BUCKS over a pothole. Silas fights the wheel.
He angles the mirror again. Twin beams of light, high up, closing fast. An ARMORED RIG.
Damn it all to hell.
His gnarled hand fumbles for the passenger door release. The latch is mangled, gone.
He kicks at the door. A clumsy, desperate effort. A jolt of pain shoots up his hip. He winces.
His eyes flick to the backseat.
A heavy, dark PACKAGE is wedged against the compromised door. It shifts with a heavy THUD as Silas swerves.
The blue light INTENSIFIES, joined by strobing amber. Three sets of lights now. Their LOW, GUTTURAL ENGINES swallow the Bronco’s tired ROAR.
Silas stomps the accelerator. The old engine STRAINS, a wheezing complaint. The speedometer needle quivers at sixty.
They’re gaining.
EXT. ALLEYWAY - NIGHT
Silas wrenches the wheel. The Bronco pitches into a narrow alleyway.
TIRES SHRIEK. The truck kicks up a cloud of dust and garbage.
The narrow brick walls SCRAPE past, peeling paint from the Bronco’s sides with a SHRRIIIILLLL WHINE.
A loud METALLIC CLANG from behind. One of the pursuers GRINDING against a dumpster.
INT. BRONCO - CONTINUOUS
Silas’s chest heaves. The cabin fills with the acrid smell of exhaust and the sharp tang of metal.
He glances at his hands. Clean.
A jarring IMPACT from the rear. A ram.
The Bronco lurches forward. Silas wrestles the wheel, shoulders screaming in protest.
In the rearview, a massive black grille fills the entire frame.
You want it, you gotta earn it.
He floors it. The engine SPUTTERS, coughs, then catches. But the power drains.
The temperature gauge.
The needle is climbing.
EXT. RESIDENTIAL STREET - NIGHT
The Bronco bursts from the alley onto a quiet street lined with sleeping houses.
Silas swerves around a parked sedan. Its ALARM CHIRPS.
Headlights flash in his mirrors. A low-slung, dark SEDAN joins the armored rig. Flanking him.
The Bronco SHUDDERS. A deep tremor from the engine.
Steam curls from under the hood, a white plume in the streetlight glow.
No, no, not now.
He works the gear shift. The transmission WHINES and GRINDS.
The sedan on his left swerves, nudging him. The CRUNCH of metal on metal.
Silas fights the wheel, his arms burning. The Bronco drifts.
He sees an overpass ahead. The bridge.
The sedan nudges again, harder. The Bronco veers sharply. Silas overcorrects, slamming his body against his door. His elbow CRACKS against the armrest. He doesn't react.
The armored rig flashes its high beams. Blinding.
Silas swerves violently, braking hard. The sedan overshoots, exposing a gap.
He stomps the accelerator. The engine ROARS in protest. He shoots into the gap.
The sedan’s tires SMOKE as it brakes.
Silas ducks behind a slow, overloaded SEMI-TRUCK, using its trailer as a shield.
The rig is forced to slow. The sedan tries to flank the semi.
Silas matches the semi's pace, hidden.
He reaches a trembling hand back, trying to pry at the jammed rear door. His fingers find a jagged edge of metal. He tugs. Nothing.
The semi in front of him SLAMS on its brakes.
A traffic light. Red.
Silas stomps his own brake. The Bronco’s tires lock up, SCREECHING horribly. The semi’s AIR BRAKES HISS.
He is stopped. Trapped in a sea of headlights.
In the mirror, the sedan weaves through traffic, closing.
The armored rig reappears, plowing through the far left lane.
Silas scans the dashboard.
Fuel gauge: LOW.
Temp gauge: RED.
Oil pressure: DROPPING.
He slams his shoulder against the rear door. It RATTLES with a groan of stressed metal but holds.
He punches the steering wheel in fury.
He spots a suicidal sliver of space between the semi and a compact car.
He slams the gear stick into first. The transmission GRINDS.
He floors it.
EXT. BRIDGE ENTRANCE - CONTINUOUS
The Bronco ROARS, swerving hard for the gap.
It squeezes through. A compact car’s mirror SNAPS OFF with a sharp CRACK. The semi’s HORN BLARES.
He’s through. He’s on the bridge.
INT. BRONCO - CONTINUOUS
Wind WHISTLES through the broken door.
Steam now BILLOWS from the hood, a thick, choking cloud obscuring his vision.
A CRUNCH of metal from behind. The sedan didn't make it.
Silas slows slightly, peering through the dissipating steam.
The bridge behind him is empty. Distant SIRENS WAIL.
He lets out a long, shuddering breath. His grip on the wheel loosens.
He rounds a bend. The steam clears.
A FIGURE stands in the middle of the bridge.
Tall. Dark. Perfectly still. It seems to absorb the light.
Silas stomps the brakes. The Bronco skids wildly, tires SCREAMING a final protest.
The figure doesn't move.
As the Bronco skids closer, its headlights illuminate the impossible, smooth surface of the figure's form.
A symbol is etched on its chest.
Silas’s eyes widen in horror. His jaw goes slack.
The Bronco’s engine COUGHS, SPUTTERS, and DIES.
Silence.
The figure PULSES with a cold, blue light, illuminating the ruined truck, Silas's trembling hands, and the dark package in the back.
The silence is absolute.
