Meeting Live It Earth

October 18, 2023 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

This month members of the Niriqatiginnga project have been consulting and engaging with various projects and organization to help identify models and approaches that would work as we begin to scale up our Niriqatiginnga program and its related activities.

This week we met with Maeva Gauthier, a PhD candidate with the University of Victoria Community Based Research Lab and a research assistant with the UNESCO Chair for Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education. Maeva is also the co-founder and Chief Development Officer for Live It Earth and we’ve learned a lot from her working on projects like Inclusion in Northern Research (2020-2021) and Recreating Environments of Inclusion (2021-2022) with LembasWorks. We also met Live It Earth’s Communications Coordinator, Kristien Geerdens.

We’ve been exploring the idea of establishing a program similar to a Knowledge for Change (K4C) Hub in Winnipeg for a few years now. This week’s meeting featured a group discussion about the UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education Mentor Training Program (MTP).

In our meeting, we shared ideas about creating some curriculum and got to check out their awesome Food: Farming and Food Security program. In addition to educational videos, the program provides challenges, opportunities to learn more about food security, and other resources. We feel Live It Earth has a terrific model, with many opportunities to incorporate curriculum co-development, participatory arts and video-based approaches.

We’re really thankful to Maeva and Kristien for taking time to meet with us. For our project, it was a really good opportunity for relationship development and engagement to explore future project research opportunities.

We welcome everyone who is interested to contact us on how to join these enlightening conversations. Our project is open to all, and each week we have a special theme. Contact us for more information at niriqatiginnga@gmail.com
