Our Public Comments on the NWMO Deep Geological Repository (DGR)

Our formal submission to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) regarding the NWMO Deep Geological Repository (DGR) at the Revell Site (Reference 88774) provides a comprehensive 100-page technical audit and procedural review of the Initial Project Description. As the Borups Corners community—the closest settlement to the proposed nuclear waste repository—we are challenging the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s "host-centric" willingness model, which overlooks the Section 35 rights of neighboring First Nations and excludes unorganized territories and unincorporated townships like Melgund. Our intervention addresses critical environmental impact gaps, including water stewardship, hydrogeological risks, and the lack of Indigenous social and health baseline data. This public comment highlights the socio-economic strain on local infrastructure and the safety risks of a multi-generational project spanning 160 years.
