Saturday Arts and Coding Club
This week’s Code Club session introduced participants to WordPress and the broader principles of content management systems (CMS) — the tools that make it easy for anyone to build and maintain a website without needing to write code. A CMS provides a simple, user-friendly interface for creating, editing, and organising digital content. It handles the behind-the-scenes structure and design, so users can focus on communicating their message, publishing updates, and collaborating with others. Understanding how a CMS works is a key digital skill, bridging the gap between web development and content creation.
At the centre of this session was WordPress, the world’s most widely used CMS, powering more than 40% of websites globally. We explored how WordPress allows users to manage everything from blogs and portfolios to full-scale business sites, all through an intuitive dashboard. Participants will learn about the building blocks of a WordPress site — themes, plugins, posts, and pages — and how these pieces come together to create a professional, dynamic online presence.
