Melgund Township, ON – The Local Services Board of Melgund convened its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at 7:00 pm at the community hall. Chairperson Janet Connor presided over the session, which saw the approval of crucial funding for a community project and a discussion on the board’s long-term financial planning.
The minutes from the previous meeting held on Monday, April 22nd, 2025, were reviewed and subsequently approved without amendments, following a motion by Janet Connor and seconded by Morris Robinson.
Correspondence addressed included confirmation of the receipt of sponsorship funds from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). An update was provided regarding ongoing efforts by Morris Robinson to schedule a community meeting with NWMO representatives, following an an Open House held earlier in the day in Ignace.
Following discussions with NWMO representatives, an additional $10,000 in funding was secured for the recreation hall’s deck replacement project. This supplementary amount will be added to their previously approved $50,000 donation.
Preparations for the annual Canada Day celebrations are progressing, with the reservation of portable restrooms confirmed and the arrival of newly acquired LSB-purchased event tents anticipated by mid-June. Plans are underway to engage CKDR for advertising. The board also discussed preliminary plans for a “Hot August Night” Music Jamboree, slated for mid-August, with further details to be released.
The next regular meeting of the Local Service Board is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, at 7:00 pm at the hall. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm, upon a motion by Janet Connor and seconded by Morris Robinson.
