Board and Governance

Local Services Board of Melgund

Local Services Boards (LSBs) in Northwestern Ontario play a crucial role in local governance, providing essential services to unincorporated areas that do not have municipal governments. These boards are typically run by elected volunteers from the community and are responsible for managing services such as recreation and waste management. LSBs operate under the authority of the Northern Services Boards Act, allowing residents to have a direct say in how their local services are delivered and funded, promoting a community-driven approach to local affairs.

The Board

Janet Connor (Chair): A professional in the horticultural field, Janet Connor along with her husband, relocated to Dyment approximately nine and a half years ago from the interior of British Columbia. The decision to settle in Dyment was influenced by the area’s pleasant environment, the welcoming nature of its residents, and the undeniable feeling of it being home.

Morris Robinson (Board Member): After many years of working in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Morris Robinson and his wife, Michelle, chose Dyment for their retirement. Although Morris grew up in Ignace, Ontario, his childhood was enriched by regular visits to family in Dyment, where his great-grandparents, grandparents, and father all resided. When retirement arrived, returning to Dyment felt like a natural choice for their home.

Peter Dunham (Board Member):

Terri Bell (Secretary Treasurer): Having spent an entire life in Northwestern Ontario, Dyment presented itself as an ideal location for retirement.
