Niriqatiginnga and @1860 team members meet each Saturday in Headingley for an immersive day of learning and working on our arts, cultural entrepreneurship, and food insecurity projects.
Part of our project’s goal is to provide a platform for those who have transitioned from northern life to urban living to document, celebrate, and pass on traditional stories and narratives, community history, and rich cultural heritage.
In simple terms, critical diversity is like using all the crayons in the box to create beautiful and colorful pictures, and making sure that everyone, even those who were left out before, gets a fair chance to be a part of the artwork. It's about celebrating our differences and making sure they all count.
There are several funding opportunities open right now in Manitoba. We encourage community artists and food-sector entrepreneurs, researchers and local businesses to apply.
The team meeting on September 27 will see us scheduling out some of our upcoming workshops and training sessions for the year ahead. We will also be working on proposals for the Manitoba Arts Council Indigenous 360 Program, which has a deadline of October 25.
We thank our National Kindness Week partners at Global Dignity Canada, Hello Friday Marketing and Communications, TakingITGlobal, the Centre for Global Education and the @1860 Winnipeg Arts program for supporting this year’s National Kindness Week activities. We also gratefully acknowledge funding from the Manitoba Arts Council Indigenous 360 program.
Congratulations to Ethan Tassiuk on receiving the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers from the Rt. Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada this week!
