Winter City Stories Meeting

March 13 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

This week we will continue working on our Winter City Stories storytelling project.

Part of our project’s goal is to provide a platform for those who have transitioned from northern life to urban living to document, celebrate, and pass on traditional stories and narratives, community history, and rich cultural heritage. What sets this project apart is a strong focus on amplifying knowledge transmission and exchange to younger generations and nurturing their artistic aspirations and skills through training in traditional and contemporary forms of storytelling.

Winter City Stories addresses a need for a new generation of traditional storytellers, to preserve northern Indigenous histories, heritage and knowledge while empowering newly-urban artists and youth to flourish in a contemporary urban landscape. This urgency stems from a growing gap between generations and a critical need for cultural continuity. Our project builds upon earlier work through a blending of oral histories and traditional narratives with contemporary artistic expressions and practical skills relevant to today’s society. This synthesis bridges historical wisdom with contemporary relevance, creating a powerful connection between past and present.

Join us for the @1860 Winnipeg Arts Meetings. The team meets each Wednesday evening from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and we welcome everyone who is interested to contact us on how to take part. Meetings are open to all, and each week we will have a special theme. For more information, contact us at niriqatiginnga@gmail.com.
