Niriqatiginnga, meaning “come eat with me” in Inuktitut, is a groundbreaking project that blends arts, creative entrepreneurship, food security, and participatory research. The project is set to launch in November 2023 and offers an exciting opportunity for First Nations, Inuit and Metis youth aged 18 and older to explore these fields while actively contributing to their communities.

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Project Overview: Niriqatiginnga, meaning “come eat with me” in Inuktitut, is a groundbreaking project that blends arts, creative entrepreneurship, food security, and participatory research. The project is set to launch in November 2023 and offers an exciting opportunity for First Nations, Inuit and Metis youth aged 18 and older to explore these fields while actively contributing to their communities.

Job Summary: Youth Artists and Research Assistants will play a key role in establishing the Niriqatiginnga project, gaining valuable early career experience in arts, creative entrepreneurship, and community-based research. This is an introductory position designed to engage and educate young adults in various aspects of communications and media. The role involves creating content, leading engagement activities, and building relationships with a diverse range of community members. It has a big arts focus, and is geared towards emerging artists keen to explore pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation: Collaborate on creating and posting articles, photos, and new media content related to arts, creative entrepreneurship, and food security. Share project updates and success stories through various communication platforms.
  2. Community Engagement: Take the lead in engaging with community members, especially Indigenous youth. Organize and participate in relationship-building activities, informal discussions, and interactive sessions to gather insights and perspectives.
  3. Introductory Research: Assist in basic research activities and data collection related to food security and community-based research. Learn the fundamentals of research and gain hands-on experience.
  4. Documentation: Maintain records of project activities, interviews, and feedback. Contribute to project reports and updates, helping to share the project’s progress and impact.
  5. Cultural Awareness: Promote cultural sensitivity and respect in all project activities. Embrace opportunities to learn about and celebrate Indigenous culture and traditions.
  6. Mentorship and Learning: Participate in mentorship activities offered by project leaders and advisors. Gain early career insights and skills development in arts, creative entrepreneurship, and research methodologies.
  7. Relationship Development and Engagement: Lead relationship-building activities and foster connections with community members, project leaders, and other stakeholders. Learn the art of effective relationship development.

Qualifications:

  • Aged 18-20 and a strong interest in arts, creative entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
  • A genuine passion for learning and personal growth.
  • Basic computer skills and an interest in new media content creation.

Timeline and Compensation: This is a temporary position that will begin in November 2023 and continue until at least June 2024. Compensation may also include a stipend or educational support, commensurate with experience and contributions.

@1860 Winnipeg Arts is a small, community-driven arts entrepreneurship and cultural entrepreneurship program in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
A new food sector entrepreneurship program is starting up this summer in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In the coming months, a small group of youth artists studying entrepreneurship with the non-profit organization Niriqatiginnga are designing, marketing and selling a special edition line of homemade jams for the fall and holiday season.
