CBRL Conversations – Fall 2023

The next CBRL meeting this Friday, October 6 at 11:00 am (PST) (1:00 Winnipeg time) with Roxana Dulón Gonzáles andVerónica Regina Hinojosa Sardán.

Roxana Gonzáles, a Bolivian business administrator based in Santa Cruz, manages the Bolivian PPV empowerment project for women in artisanal fish farming. This initiative, funded by Global Affairs Canada, is carried out by four institutions—two Bolivian (CEPAC and IMG) and two Canadian (WFT and RRU). Roxana’s previous roles include four years as the Regional Director of ACLO Chuquisaca Foundation and seven years as the Executive Director of PASOS Foundation, both focused on economic, productive, and social issues in southern Bolivia. She holds a BA and MA in Business Administration, a PhD from Utrecht University, and additional diplomas in Gender and Development, Social Management, and Higher Education.

Verónica Sardán brings two decades of experience in economic development programs, with a strong emphasis on the value chain and gender equity approaches. Over the past nine years, she has been instrumental in developing the fish farming complex in the Tropic of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. Verónica’s efforts include strengthening gender equity in fish farming organizations, empowering fish farmers to assert their economic rights, and enhancing their technical and economic capacities. Recently, there has been a focus on promoting women’s economic and social empowerment. However, the definition of empowerment varies across cultures and contexts. Join us to hear from them discussing how empowerment is perceived in Bolivian rural fish farming and ways to enhance and assess it.
