CBRL Community Conversations: Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias

November 17, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

We are pleased to invite you to our CBRL meeting this Friday, November 17 at 11:00 am (PST) with Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias, who is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities at the University of São Paulo. Since 2012 she has been a member of the Sustainability Laboratory at USP and works under the Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy Management (EACH-USP). She is also a professor of and advisor to the PROCAM-USP Graduate Program in Environmental Science and Sustainability. Her research focus is on solid waste, specifically waste management, policies, and socio-environmental impacts.

Join us to hear from Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias discussing an educational tool designed for engaging students in participatory, individual, and collective activities centered around environmental and climate injustices, using the local environment as a focal point for reflection. This tool called the Climate Detective Educational Toolkit, was created as part of the “Participatory Action Research: Education for Climate Justice in the Ribeira Valley” project, which began in October 2021 and is a collaboration between NOSS EACH USP, Climate-U (College of London – UKRI), and INCLINE USP in Brazil. The toolkit is specifically designed for primary school students and aims to encourage them to observe their surroundings to identify issues related to Climate Injustice and propose solutions.
