Unveiling Uncharted Narratives
These stories present themselves as incomplete narrative fragments, moments captured mid-scene, or pages torn from a larger book. They invite the reader into a world where beginnings and endings are fluid, encouraging a personal journey of discovery. Each piece evokes a sense of mystery, compelling the imagination to fill in what came before and what happens next.
This collection is an experiment at the intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence. It explores how digital tools can act as a partner in the writing process, shaping new forms of storytelling and enhancing digital literacy. The project aims to understand the evolving landscape of collaborative narrative creation.
This collection spans genres from contemporary drama to expansive Sci-Fi, encompassing coming-of-age themes, slice of life observations, and literary fiction. In this selection, the distinct voice of Jamie F. Bell guides us through these varied landscapes.
We invite you to explore these tales, not just as a reader, but as a co-creator. Your engagement completes the narrative in your own mind, giving each unfinished tale a unique trajectory.

The Hum of Uncertain Gears
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Crime Noir | Genre: Contemporary Drama
The old industrial unit, now the heart of the ‘Foundry’ arts collective, was a cavern of concrete and cold air this autumn evening. A lone halogen lamp, strung precariously from the high ceiling, cast a harsh, unforgiving light on Andrea’s workspace, revealing a fine layer of sawdust and metallic flecks that shimmered on every surface. The air, thick with the scent of turpentine and stale coffee, held a chill that seeped into her bones, despite the whirring space heater trying its best against the vast space.

A Cold Kindling
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Post-Apocalyptic | Genre: Sci-Fi
The air, sharp and clean, clung to the barren landscape, a quiet testament to the world’s enduring indifference. Snow hadn’t fallen yet, but the frost, a thin skin over every surface, heralded winter’s true arrival. Inside a repurposed module, the hum of a salvaged generator fought a losing battle against the encroaching chill, leaving the air heavy with the metallic tang of cold and the faint, sweet scent of decaying leaves trapped beneath the floorboards.

Minus Forty and the Broken Heater
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Crime Noir | Genre: Coming-of-Age
On a dangerously cold day in Winnipeg, a young runner navigates the downtown skywalk system to complete a petty illicit transaction, confronting the bleak reality of his choices along the way.

Where the Light Bends Incorrectly
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Poetic / Lyrical | Genre: Slice of Life
The air, thin and sharp with the metallic scent of approaching rain and decaying leaves, burned in Paulo’s lungs. Every ragged breath was a failure, not quite filling the screaming space in his chest. He pressed himself harder against the corrugated metal of the shed, the cold seeping through his thin jacket, trying to make himself smaller than the fear that was making him huge and clumsy.

The Glazed Path
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Young Adult (YA) | Genre: Literary Fiction
The city’s winter bites hard, transforming familiar paths into treacherous sheets of ice and slush. Amidst the grey, churning landscape of a university campus, Siobhán confronts the harsh realities of urban life, far from the quiet, predictable snows of her northern home, seeking a fragile foothold in a world that feels increasingly alien.
About the Project
By design, these stories have no beginning and no end. Many stories are fictional, but many others are not. They are snapshots from worlds that never fully exist, inviting you to imagine what comes before and what happens next. We had fun exploring this project, and hope you will too.
The Unfinished Tales and Short Stories collection is an experimental, creative research project by The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and the Art Borups Corners Storytelling clubs. Each chapter is a unique interdisciplinary arts and narrative storytelling experiment, born from a collaboration between artists and applied AI researchers, designed to explore the boundaries of creative writing, automation, and storytelling. The project was made possible with funding and support from the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program and the Government of Ontario.
