The Melgund Local Services Board (LSB) gathered at the hall on Monday, November 17 at 7 p.m., with board members Pat Daignault, Sean Merritt, Norm Eady, Jason Holroyd, Karen Daignault, Terri Bell, Jamie Bell, and Maurice Betournay in attendance. Chairperson Pat Daignault called the meeting to order, opening a productive session focused on updates, planning, and upcoming community events.
In an effort to make meetings more efficient, the Board confirmed that meeting minutes will no longer be read aloud during gatherings. Instead, residents can find them posted on community message boards and distributed through the LSB’s email list. With no corrections noted, the minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Correspondence & Business Arising
The Board received follow-up materials from NWMO regarding their recent presentation, which have already been shared with residents.
Several ongoing projects were revisited:
- BBQ Purchase: The new BBQ has been picked up and is now ready for community use.
- Hall Deck and Windows: The contractor has yet to respond; Sean will reach out again for an update.
- Insurance & Monitoring: Standard/Brokerlink confirmed that monitored security equipment is allowed for the hall, provided it is externally monitored.
- Snow Plow Tender: A copy of the contractor’s insurance is still needed, and Karen will deliver it.
- Message Boards: These are designated for official LSB notices only. Anyone wishing to post community information must request board approval. Sean will refurbish the boards and add locks.
The Board also reviewed options from Willie Winter (Winter’s & Co.) regarding this year’s financial procedures. With recent NSB changes occurring close to year-end, the LSB will undertake a full audit for 2024–2025.
Community Activities & Holiday Plans
Residents are invited to help decorate the hall and trees—both inside and out—on Saturday, November 29 at noon, followed by chili and buns for everyone who participates.
Plans are well underway for the annual Christmas Supper, set for Saturday, December 20 at 5 p.m. The evening will include food, games, and a festive “Garage Sale Gifts” exchange. Board members have already begun organizing supper contributions, with turkeys, stuffing, gravy, potatoes, vegetables, buns, salad, pickles, and desserts all assigned. Terri will purchase the turkeys, stuffing, and Chinette plates on behalf of the hall.
Games Night continues to be a success, with the next session scheduled for Wednesday, December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Board also confirmed that the $500 donation from NWMO for the new BBQ has been transferred into the regular account.
Budget & Financial Report
At the November 8 budget meeting, the Board finalized line items for the coming year. By-Law 09-2025, approving the 2025–2026 budget, was read and formally adopted through a motion by Norm and seconded by Pat.
The Treasurer’s Report for October 2025 was presented and accepted, with Norm moving the motion and Sean seconding.
