We will remember: John Murjunik Alikut

Family is important.

Last week we lost a great collaborator and friend to our team. On November 22, 2023 John Murjunik Alikut went out to get milk and supplies for his kids and during a multi-day blizzard, and unfortunately did not make it home.

He was incredibly proud of his brother Tony and his adventures with our arts collective. He would often translate and interpret for his little brother, making it possible for him to participate more fully in our programs. He was a good father, and the best big brother. He made great contributions to our projects over the years and we will always remember his support and kindness. We thank all his family and friends in Arviat who risked their lives to go out and search throughout the storm and for all those who are supporting his family in this difficult time.

On behalf of all of us with our arts incubator project, we send our deepest condolences and love to Lucy and Paul, Tony and the rest of their family, and to all of John’s friends who knew him best.
