February Incubator Update

Restrictions return and our incubator program has suffered a few setbacks. But we have been doing good work together, and our journey is just beginning. This is our incubator for digital arts and cultural entrepreneurship update for February 2022.

Restrictions return and our incubator program has suffered a few setbacks. But we have been doing good work together, and our journey is just beginning. This is our incubator for digital arts and cultural entrepreneurship update for February 2022.

Arctic Science Summit Week Conference Sessions Cancelled

The Race and Systemic Bias in Arctic Sciences Cross-Cutting Workshop originally planned for March 19-26, 2022 between Tromso, Norway and Winnipeg, Manitoba has been unfortunately cancelled. We were all looking forward to showcasing our incubator project’s work so far, and to exhibit on the international stage for the first time along with many of our partners who’ve been with us on this journey.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, restrictions and the logistics of international travel at this time, it was decided by the organizers that this much-anticipated event be cancelled and postponed until 2023.

There is still some great news this month.

Inuit Studies Conference 2022 Presentations Approved!

Despite not being able to host our workshop for Arctic Science Summit Week, we have just received word that our submission to deliver a public presentation and interactive showcase of our incubator and the work we are doing for Auviqsaqtut, the 22nd Inuit Studies Conference was accepted!

The Inuit Studies Conference will be held from April 6-9, 2022 here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. For information on how you can register, visit their web site here.

This year’s Inuit Studies conference is being presented in collaboration with the University of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Art Gallery – Qaumajuq, where this year’s Inuit studies Conference will take place. The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is one of Canada’s first civic art galleries housed in an iconic modernist building in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Qaumajuq is a new and innovative museum that is attached to the WAG. It is the first of its kind and houses the largest public collection of Inuit art in the world- nearly 14,000 pieces of Inuit art.

We’re very grateful to the organizers for accepting our event proposal and we are super excited to have the opportunity to come together, in-person, we hope, this April. We will have to adapt our original plan for Norway to fit with this year’s Inuit Studies Conference here in Canada, but we are confident, if not excited, to be able to participate and we’ll make it work.

School Planning

College and University is just around the corner for many of our students who will be graduating this year. On February 25 at 4:00 p.m. (CST) we will be holding an online meeting to discuss planning for school in the fall. For those who have questions, need assistance in completing forms and applications, we’ll be able to go through a lot of those as a group. It’s never good to wait and applications should be going in as soon as possible.

And that is your update for this first week of February 2022. We would like to thank our supporters the Canada Council for the Arts, University of Minnesota Duluth and the Arctic Buying Company for believing in our work. We could not be establishing this experimental program without that support and encouragement.

Announcing our Program during Canada’s first-ever National Kindness Week

For those who are new to the program, before our incubator for digital arts and cultural entrepreneurship got started, we had several meetings to talk with and learn from experts and organizations from across Canada and the United States to help us scope out the program could look like. One of those people who helped us flesh out the concept for our incubator was Rabbi Reuven Bulka. Rabbi Bulka passed away in June 2021, but was one of the first people to encourage what we were planning and we’ll always be grateful for his making time to share his wisdom and knowledge with us.

Join us, February 15, 2022 as our incubator for digital arts and cultural entrepreneurship takes part in this year’s inaugural National Kindness Week. We’re very thankful to our partners at Global Dignity Canada for thinking of us and extending the invitation to be part of this very special event.

For more information on how you can attend either the national launch event or the national student class activity, contact us at info@ourpeopleourclimate.com.
