Sky and snow, meeting our homes. A soft light touches everything. Familiar shapes, but a different feel in the air. The edge of our community, where the wild meets our lives. We watch, we remember, we see the subtle shifts in the world around our doors. This is our place, changing with the light.

Where the Snow Meets Our Homes

By Tony Eetak
Sky and snow, meeting our homes. A soft light touches everything. Familiar shapes, but a different feel in the air. The edge of our community, where the wild meets our lives. We watch, we remember, we see the subtle shifts in the world around our doors. This is our place, changing with the light.

Our Community’s Edge

This is where we live. Our homes, nestled in the snow. Looking at it now, in this light, it feels both familiar and a little strange. The sky has that early morning or late evening glow, and it reminds you of how the light itself seems to be changing, the seasons not quite the same as they used to be. Our community is here, rooted in this land, but the snowdrifts and the way the ice forms each year… you notice the differences.

These are the places where we gather, where our families are. And seeing them surrounded by this vastness of snow and sky makes you think about how connected we are to this environment. The changes out on the ice, they affect us here too. The way we travel, the animals we rely on – it all comes back to our community.

This picture is about home. It’s about the place we know and love, but it’s also a reminder that even here, in our villages, we are seeing the impact of a changing climate. It’s a quiet observation, a look at our everyday lives through the lens of the changes happening around us.
