Peter’s Joyful Noise

Peter’s Joyful Noise: Celebrating Uniqueness and Arts Publishing in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario

Book cover for Peter's Joyful Noise, a story supporting regional arts and publishing.

Introducing Peter’s Joyful Noise, a vibrant short story written by Kendall Suluk and proudly published by The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and the Art Borups Corners Storytelling Club. This heartwarming tale poses a question relevant to all young readers: What happens when your unique talent is completely unexpected? Peter desperately wants to shine at the annual school talent show, but traditional acts like singing and dancing just don’t feel like him. That is, until a loud, magnificent kitchen clang sparks an innovative idea: building a one-man band using pots, pans, and a colander helmet!

Peter’s creation, “The Kitchen Crash,” fills his home with a contagious, clanging rhythm that delights his family. However, as the day of the show arrives, Peter finds his confidence wavering when faced with traditional acts like magicians and ballerinas. Surrounded by conformity, Peter’s butterflies start doing somersaults. Will he summon the bravery to share his wonderfully unique, loud, and messy music with the world? This story powerfully celebrates the dignity of the self, reminding every child that true happiness and courage come from embracing who you are, no matter how loud or different your passion might be.

Empowering Storytelling, Publishing, and the Arts in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba

This book and the Art Borups Corners Storytelling Club library are key initiatives celebrating the incredible creativity and talent of our regional community. This special interdisciplinary arts and capacity building program directly supports publishing and storytelling across Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba. The program, which successfully ran in the summer of 2025, was made possible by the dedicated support of: the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program, The Arts Incubator Winnipeg Hub, the Ottawa-based organization Global Dignity Canada, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Creative Entrepreneurship Program. We extend our most heartfelt thanks to the Local Services Board of Melgund and the many community members, artists, and creators who help bring these regional arts programs to life.
