The Ultimate Sweet & Salty Mashup
When you need a delicious dessert without turning on the oven, these bars are your answer. They bring together the irresistible trio of salty pretzels, creamy peanut butter, and decadent chocolate in a simple, crowd-pleasing treat. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or a quick afternoon pick-me-up.
Materials
- 2 cups crushed pretzels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Preparation
- Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to easily lift the bars out later.
- In a medium bowl, combine the crushed pretzels and melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
- Press the pretzel mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
- In a separate bowl, beat the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the peanut butter mixture evenly over the pretzel crust.
Cooking
- To make the ganache topping, place the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
- Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 5 minutes without stirring.
- After 5 minutes, whisk the mixture gently until a smooth, glossy ganache forms.
- Pour the ganache over the peanut butter layer and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours, or until the ganache is firm.
