MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES AND INSPIRATIONAL STORIES by Art Borups Corners

The Duct Tape Theory of Momentum

"Movement creates its own logic, even when you are just duct-taping your life back together."

Looking forward in life and refusing to stay still even when the plan is messy.

Stop waiting for the signal because the radio tower got struck by lightning three summers ago and nobody is coming to fix it. We spend way too much time standing in the middle of the street, checking our maps while the pavement literally melts under our boots. Stagnation is a slow death, a kind of rot that smells like damp drywall and unfulfilled potential. If you’re waiting to feel 100% prepared before you make a move, you’re basically signing up for a lifetime of sitting on a milk crate in a garage that isn't yours.

Real confidence isn't that shiny, polished energy you see in corporate brochures. It’s actually more like the chaotic vibe of a backyard wrestling match where everyone forgot the script. It’s messy. It’s loud. It’s "I have no idea if this engine will start, but I’m turning the key anyway" energy. Psychologists talk about a concept called self-efficacy, which is basically the gut-level belief that you can handle the fallout of your own choices. You don't need to know the destination to know you shouldn't stay here. Movement creates its own logic.

Choose a direction, even if it’s arguably the wrong one, because you can always steer a moving car. You can't steer a parked one. When you stop staying still, you trigger a process called cognitive reframing. This is where you flip the script on your anxiety. Instead of seeing a change as a threat to your safety, your brain starts seeing it as a puzzle to be solved. You’re not "lost" in some terrifying void; you’re just taking the scenic route through a weird neighbourhood you didn't know existed. The adrenaline of the unknown is a way better fuel than the heavy, grey sludge of "what if."

The world is always going to try and sell you a pre-packaged version of an adventure. They want you to buy the right shoes, follow the right influencers, and stay within the lines. Forget that noise. Build your own momentum with whatever scrap metal and spare parts you have lying around. If you’re scared, do it scared. If you’re confused, do it while squinting at the sun. Just don't let your feet take root in a place that doesn't make your heart beat fast. Living with a few scars from a failed attempt is infinitely better than having perfectly smooth skin because you never left your bedroom. The only thing worse than making a massive mistake is being a statue of someone who was too afraid to make one.
