The Magic Of 'Not Yet'

"The shame of not being 'there' yet evaporates when you realize that the 'there' is a moving target."

Unlocking potential with the dignity of a growth-oriented mindset and purpose.

When you face a challenge that feels too big, or a skill that feels too hard to learn, it is easy to say 'I can't do this.' That phrase is a dead end. It shuts down your brain and kills your potential before it even has a chance to breathe. But there is a secret weapon that changes everything: the words 'not yet.' I don't have the job I want—not yet. I haven't mastered this skill—not yet. I haven't found my purpose—not yet. This small shift opens a door that 'I can't' slams shut.

This is the essence of having a growth mindset. It is the belief that your abilities are not fixed traits, but muscles that can be built over time. This perspective is inherently tied to your dignity because it acknowledges that you are a work in progress. You are allowed to be unfinished. You are allowed to be a 'version 1.0' while you work toward 'version 5.0.' The shame of not being 'there' yet evaporates when you realize that the 'there' is a moving target anyway.

Think of your potential as a garden. You don't yell at a sprout because it isn't a flower yet. You water it, you give it light, and you wait. You have to treat yourself with that same kindness. Every time you practice, every time you study, every time you try something new, you are watering your potential. The dignity is in the effort. The dignity is in the refusal to give up on yourself just because the results aren't visible above the soil line yet.

Keep showing up. The world will try to tell you that if it isn't instant, it isn't happening. Don't believe them. The best things in life take time to cook. You are becoming the person who is capable of holding the success you are chasing. If you got everything you wanted today, you might not have the character to keep it. The 'not yet' period is where you build the strength to handle the 'finally.' Stay the course.
