Let Go or Be Dragged

"Forgiveness isn't about the other person; it's about not carrying their mess around anymore."

Using forgiveness and radical positivity to heal from past digital trauma and personal hurt.

Holding onto a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. We’ve all heard that, but how many of us actually live by it? Especially in the age of ‘receipts’ and cancel culture, we’ve become obsessed with holding people accountable to the point where we’re just carrying around bags of hot coal. It’s exhausting. It’s weighing you down and making you bitter. Forgiveness isn't about saying what they did was okay. It’s about deciding that you’re done letting it ruin your day. It’s a gift you give to yourself.

Think about the mental space that person is occupying in your head. They’re living there rent-free, and they’re trashing the place. Every time you replay that argument or check their social media to see if they’re failing, you’re giving them more power. You’re letting them dictate your mood from miles away. Is that really what you want? I didn't think so. Radical positivity means having the strength to say, ‘I’m done with this.’ It means choosing your own peace over the hollow satisfaction of being ‘right’ or getting revenge.

Letting go is a process, not a one-time event. You’re going to have days where that anger flares up again. That’s normal. But when it happens, don't feed the fire. Acknowledge the feeling, and then intentionally shift your focus back to something that actually builds you up. This is where your discipline comes in. You have to be more committed to your healing than you are to your hurt. It’s a hard choice, but it’s the only one that leads to freedom. You can’t move forward if you’re constantly looking in the rearview mirror.

Focus on the future. There are so many new people to meet, new things to learn, and new experiences to have. Don't let the ghosts of the past rob you of the beauty of the present. When you choose to forgive and move on, you’re clearing out the clutter in your heart to make room for something better. You’re choosing love over resentment, and that is a winning strategy every single time. Take a deep breath and let it all go. You have better things to do with your life.
