Thomas’s Mismatched Magic: Celebrating Self-Discovery and Arts Publishing in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario
Meet Thomas, a boy whose feet are a testament to his vibrant spirit! He adores wearing mismatched socks—a bold yellow polka dot on one foot, a zig-zag green on the other—and his family celebrates his unique style. However, the whispers and curious glances from his classmates at school cause a “tiny prickle” of self-doubt. Thomas finds himself caught in a dilemma: should he hide his colorful choices to fit in, or embrace the special magic that makes him, truly, him?
When his teacher announces a significant “Show and Tell About YOU,” Thomas is faced with an enormous choice. Will he succumb to the pressure of conformity, or will he find the quiet courage to let his unique, mismatched magic shine for everyone to see? This captivating short story gently guides readers through the crucial journey of self-discovery and the bravery required to stand tall in your own shoes, even when they don’t coordinate.
Join Thomas as he learns the enduring lesson that true confidence is not found in blending in, but in celebrating the wonderful, unique parts of yourself. Thomas’s Mismatched Magic is a heartwarming tale that champions individuality and is a direct result of supporting the arts infrastructure in the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario region.

Empowering Publishing, Storytelling, and Arts in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba
The Art Borups Corners Storytelling Club library proudly showcases and celebrates the incredible talent and creativity of our local Northern Ontario community. This vital interdisciplinary arts and capacity building program, which successfully ran in the summer of 2025, champions regional publishing and storytelling and was made possible through the dedicated support of: the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program, The Arts Incubator Winnipeg Hub, the Ottawa-based organization Global Dignity Canada, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Creative Entrepreneurship Program.
