Arts and Culture Entrepreneurship Field Trip

This 90-minute workshop is designed to provide participants with an immersive experience in the world of arts and culture entrepreneurship.

Through a field trip to an artist or cultural entrepreneur’s workplace, participants will learn about the challenges and opportunities of owning a business in these sectors, and the skills required to succeed. The workshop will also include group discussions, brainstorming exercises, and reflection activities to enhance learning and provide participants with an understanding of the resources and support available for emerging artists and cultural entrepreneurs. Overall, this workshop aims to inspire participants to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in the arts and culture sectors, and provide them with the tools and knowledge to do so.

Objective:

The objective of this lesson is to give participants the opportunity to visit an artist or cultural entrepreneur’s workplace, learn about what it means to be an entrepreneur working in the arts and culture sectors, the challenges and opportunities of owning your own business, and the skills required. Participants will also have a hands-on workplace experience.

Materials:

  • Transportation to and from the workplace location
  • Notebook and pen for note-taking

Outline:

I. Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Welcome and introduction of the instructor and participants
  • Overview of the workshop objectives and activities
  • Review of safety guidelines for the field trip

II. Pre-Visit Discussion (20 minutes)

  • Introduction to the artist or cultural entrepreneur and their business
  • Overview of entrepreneurship in the arts and culture sectors
  • Discussion of the challenges and opportunities of owning a business in these sectors
  • Hands-on group exercise to brainstorm ideas for a new arts and culture business

III. Field Trip (60 minutes)
