About the Book

by Tony Eetak
Brian's quiet lunchbox hides a secret. Popular Jenny notices his struggle. Can she help, protecting his pride, and show the true power of empathy?
Written by Tony Eetak and published by the Arts Incubator Winnipeg and Art Borups Corners Storytelling club, The Quiet Lunchbox asks: What if the biggest problems aren't always loud? Sixth-grader Jenny thrives amidst the lively chaos of her school, but she can't ignore Brian, the quiet boy who always eats alone. His sparse, plain lunches and swift exits from food events hint at a struggle far deeper than mere shyness, sparking a quiet question in Jenny's heart. As Jenny pieces together subtle clues – worn clothes, constant reading, a guarded demeanor – she realizes Brian carries a secret, a silent burden he's too proud to reveal. How can she offer help without exposing his vulnerability or damaging his dignity? This isn't a problem to be solved with a simple question; it requires a quiet, observant heart and a commitment to understanding. The Quiet Lunchbox is a heartwarming and important story about the power of empathy and the courage it takes to truly see others. Join Jenny as she embarks on a thoughtful mission to uplift a classmate, proving that the most profound acts of kindness often speak without a single word. Perfect for young readers and families, this tale champions the dignity of others and the transformative impact of compassionate friendship.
