Others are symbolic. Then there are bridges like Provencher\u2014built of cables and concrete, yes\u2014but also of memory, language, and light. Suspended across the Red River in Winnipeg, this structure isn\u2019t just a crossing. It\u2019s a pause. A moment. A breath held between two worlds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We didn\u2019t grow up with bridges like this,&#8221; said Tony Eetak, one of the youth involved in this year&#8217;s program. &#8220;For many of us, a &#8216;bridge&#8217; meant a log laid over a creek or a gravel road with a culvert underneath\u2014crossings that felt temporary, seasonal, even accidental. Spring would flood them. We\u2019d find new ways across. But Provencher? It\u2019s something else entirely. It soars. It curves skyward like it\u2019s holding up more than its own weight\u2014like it\u2019s holding up time itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;When we walk it, we don\u2019t always talk. There\u2019s a rhythm to it: the steps, the lines, the sky above. You feel small here\u2014not diminished, but part of something grand. Something steady. On one end, downtown. On the other, St. Boniface. And in between, a place that feels cinematic and rooted all at once.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bridge becomes a witness\u2014quiet, modern, and humble. Every walk across it adds to its story, its memory, its soft echo of footsteps in all seasons. There\u2019s a kind of ceremony in the act of <em>looking up<\/em>. A founding member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/artsincubator.ca\/digitalsalvage\/author\/abcadmin\/\">Art Borups Corners<\/a> collective and its Winnipeg-based <a href=\"\/digitalsalvage\/\">Arts Incubator<\/a>, Tony has contributed to participatory art projects across Canada through organizations like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isuma.tv\/%E1%90%83%E1%93%84%E1%92%83%E1%91%8E%E1%91%90%E1%91%A6\/producers\/arviat-film-society\">Arviat Film Society<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/globaldignity.ca\">Global Dignity Canada<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/artsincubator.ca\/digitalsalvage\/projects\/our-people-our-climate-manitoba-2022\/\">Our People, Our Climate<\/a>. With over five years of experience as a dedicated volunteer, collaborator and co-funder of several arts projects, Tony has been involved in various participatory arts events through organizations like the Arviat Film Society, Global Dignity Canada, Inclusion in Northern Research, and Our People, Our Climate. His contributions earned him recognition as a National Role Model by Global Dignity Canada in 2023.
