Because on the surface, there\u2019s more stuff being made than ever. AI tools have basically turned everyone into a potential creator. Think about visual art for a second. Suddenly, someone who couldn&#8217;t draw a stick figure can punch in a few words and get something that looks damn professional. Not just a scribble, but a whole scene, a character, a style they admire.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s wild. This isn&#8217;t just about making bad art better; it\u2019s about making <em>any<\/em> art possible for millions who never had the skill, the time, or the expensive tools before. Grandmothers composing symphonies, teens illustrating graphic novels \u2013 the sheer volume is incredible. The gates are open.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here&#8217;s the catch. All these tools? They learn from what&#8217;s already out there. They&#8217;re built on mountains of existing images, sounds, stories. So, when you ask it to make something &#8216;new,&#8217; it pulls from that well. It smooths out the edges, optimizes for what&#8217;s generally considered &#8216;good&#8217; or &#8216;pleasing.&#8217; It\u2019s not trying to be subversive; it\u2019s trying to be useful and effective based on what it&#8217;s been shown.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, while you get a ton of stuff, a lot of it starts to hum with a similar tune, a kind of digital background radiation that makes everything feel vaguely related, like distant cousins who all got the same nose from a shared ancestor, gently, almost imperceptibly, guiding countless nascent creative impulses down well-worn, aesthetically pleasing paths that, while accessible and efficient, slowly erode the craggy, unexpected contours of genuine stylistic divergence.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, where does that leave us? We\u2019ve got more people making more things than ever. That\u2019s a win for participation, right? Absolutely. But what if that participation comes at the cost of true formal diversity?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if the next Picasso or Miles Davis, someone who really breaks the mold, finds themselves nudged back into something &#8216;acceptable&#8217; by the very tools meant to empower them? What if the genuinely weird, the stuff that makes you stop and scratch your head because it doesn&#8217;t fit <em>anywhere<\/em>, just slowly fades out?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe the play is to consciously lean against the current. Don&#8217;t just take the first thing the tool gives you. Push it. Break it. Or, as a viewer, hunt for the stuff that genuinely feels off-kilter, the bits that don&#8217;t quite fit the pattern.
