But deep-time digital preservation does not care about those arguments. Future historians will look back at this decade and see a single, thick layer of gray digital silt. This is the blended-origin strata, a massive deposit of files where human effort and machine generation are melted together. It is impossible to separate them, and eventually, nobody will try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Digital conservators do not search for creator names or authentic signatures anymore. Metadata is fragile; it gets stripped during uploads, corrupted in storage migrations, or simply faked. Instead, archival systems are being built to map the density of stylistic convergence, looking at how often specific visual quirks show up across millions of files. They track things like a certain flat lighting style, a recurring pattern of pixel noise, or a specific way blue tones bleed into shadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This process treats data like geological sediment, where a magnetic tape or a spinning hard drive platter contains layers of compressed information that can only be understood by looking at the composition of the soil itself rather than trying to identify the individual grain of sand that fell first. The origin of any single file matters less than the weight of the pile it sits in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The separation gets even muddier when humans start imitating the machines. Artists now paint artificial errors by hand, mimicking the weirdly melted fingers or nonsensical text of early generators to make their work look trendy. Then, the scrapers feed those human paintings back into the training loops. The circle closes, and the distinction between the copy and the original disappears entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When imitation loops like this run for years, the concept of an original voice loses all practical meaning. Every upload, every generated background, and every edited photo adds to a monument of pure noise.
