ECO-STAR North is a transformative applied research initiative dedicated to fostering a sovereign creative economy across the circumpolar world. By moving beyond conventional Western business models, this initiative integrates Indigenous epistemologies with community-led methodologies like Participatory Action Research (PAR). The goal is to co-create a framework where success is measured not just by financial return, but by community well-being, cultural revitalization, and self-determination. This program was an experiment in system collision.\u00a0Thanks to the OpenAI Researcher Access Program, we embedded participatory art and Indigenous-led storytelling inside processes usually reserved for optimization and prediction. And it was an adventure.<\/p>

We tested how art and story behaves in machine environments.\u00a0We used narrative to destabilize logic.\u00a0We explored resilience not as an outcome, but as a system function \u2014 emergent, collective, recursive. We built stuff. We broke things. We explored the codes beneath the codes.\u00a0This project didn\u2019t ask how AI can help communities.\u00a0It asked what communities do to AI<\/em>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Funded by Manitoba Agriculture and the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the initiative explored the development of a network of projects and programs to support northern food security and entrepreneurship in the food sector.<\/p>

The project included relationship-building, consultation, and engagement focused on participatory food security research and training. It also involved collaboration with the Minneapolis College of Art and Design\u2019s Creative Entrepreneurship program. In addition, the project helped design research efforts to attract investment in Manitoba\u2019s food systems.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
