Digital Salvage is a Winnipeg-based media arts collective and non-profit that supports emerging artists across Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Minneapolis. Our spring and summer arts internship and mentorship program connects youth and early-career artists with hands-on opportunities in digital storytelling, artificial intelligence, gallery curation, and community-based media arts. Our 2024-2025 Digital Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship Program is a groundbreaking, cross-border initiative engaging youth-led participatory arts collectives in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Melgund Township, Northwestern Ontario. Through immersive workshops and community-driven projects, we are empowering emerging artists, cultural leaders, and Indigenous youth to harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) for storytelling, oral history preservation, and creative capacity building. Centered on participatory action research, digital inclusion, and ethical AI integration, our program bridges the gap between traditional knowledge systems and cutting-edge technologies. Participants co-create multimedia projects, explore generative AI tools, and develop entrepreneurial skills that amplify community voices while addressing arts equity, cultural resilience, and sustainable creative economies. With a strong emphasis on decolonial design, youth participatory action, collaborative storytelling, AI-assisted oral history archiving, and digital sovereignty, this program fosters leadership, innovation, and long-term cultural sustainability across the arts sector.
