Growing Food Security with More Community Garden Boxes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our community’s grow boxes<\/strong> are in phenomenal shape, marking another exciting year for sustainable agriculture<\/strong> and local food production<\/strong>! Building on the strong foundation laid by our pilot program last year, proudly supported by the Manitoba Agriculture Indigenous Food Systems and Agriculture program<\/a><\/strong>, we are thrilled to be significantly expanding our raised garden beds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last season was crucial for establishing the infrastructure and allowing our initial plantings<\/strong> to take root and establish strong root systems<\/strong>. While the yield<\/strong> was modest as the plants were still maturing, this year promises a bountiful harvest! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are diversifying our crops<\/strong>, adding delicious raspberries<\/a><\/strong>, juicy blackberries<\/strong>, sweet strawberries<\/a><\/strong>, and more to our growing repertoire. This expansion is a vital step in enhancing our food security<\/a><\/strong> and promoting regenerative agriculture<\/strong>practices within our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is more than just gardening<\/strong>; it’s about fostering community engagement<\/strong>, sharing knowledge, and building a resilient local food system<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve learned so much, drawing significant inspiration from successful initiatives like the Arviat Goes Green<\/a><\/strong> project. Their dedication to Arctic farming<\/strong> and community gardens<\/strong> profoundly influenced our approach and motivated our efforts and brought back many fond memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
