When we donated and planted flowers at Dyment Recreation Park earlier this summer, the beds looked a little sparse. There were plenty of bright blooms, but also lots of open soil between them. We knew they just needed time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, after a few weeks of sunshine and regular rain, they’ve completely filled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Walking through the park, it’s hard not to smile. The white, red, and pink flowers have grown together into a colourful display that welcomes everyone who stops by. It’s amazing how quickly a garden can transform when you give it the chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Right in the middle of the main bed is one of the red apple seedlings we started from seed last year. We decided to plant it among the flowers, and it’s doing remarkably well. Seeing fresh new growth on such a young tree has been rewarding, especially knowing it began as a simple experiment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Projects like this remind us why we enjoy working outdoors so much. Whether we’re planting gardens, discovering native plants along the trails, or processing wild clay at our land lab, every project helps us learn something new while making our shared spaces a little more inviting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community spaces don’t become welcoming on their own. They grow because people care for them. A few flowers, a young apple tree, and a little time can completely change the feel of a place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We’re looking forward to spending the rest of the summer in the garden. There are still more flowers to enjoy, more vegetables to grow, and more opportunities to bring people together outdoors through our community garden programming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
