So, why are we prioritizing these beauties? Well, patience is a virtue, but color is a necessity! Most of the thousands of native milkweed seeds we\u2019re prepping are “slow and steady” types\u2014they might take a year or two to really find their footing and look like the lush habitat we\u2019re dreaming of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blood Flower Milkweed<\/strong> (Asclepias curassavica<\/em>) is our shortcut to a stunning garden. It grows fast and hits the ground running with vibrant, fiery red and yellow clusters. While we wait for our massive restoration project to mature, these flowers provide an immediate pop of color and a tasty snack for passing pollinators.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIt is important to remember that these Blood Flower beauties are the “live fast, die young” members of our garden family. Because they are a tropical variety, they\u2019ll put on a spectacular show all summer long before bowing out gracefully with the first fall frost. Think of them as our dazzling opening act; while they\u2019re busy blooming their hearts out, our native milkweed varieties will be working hard underground, quietly establishing the deep, rugged root systems they need to come back stronger year after year.
