Come out and learn about the studies they will be conducting as part of the regulatory and licensing processes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spring Art Exhibition will be open to the public starting April 20, 2026 on <strong>Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-4:00 p.m<\/strong> and <strong>Saturdays from 10:00-11:30 a.m<\/strong>. Come out and check out some of the cool arts and crafts on display and learn more about the Impact Assessment process for the DGR. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open House and Information Sessions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dymentcommunity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/iaac-cnsc-nuclear-waste-open-house-melgund-township-northwestern-ontario-april-22-2026-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is planning a deep geological repository in Revell Township to store about 5.9 million bundles of used nuclear fuel over a roughly 160-year period. The project assessment is being conducted by the impact assessment agency of canada (IAAC) in collaboration with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Local and regional community members are ENCOURAGED to attend an information session with IAAC and the cnsc to learn about the INTEGRATED impact assessment and how they can provide feedback on the draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and Public Participation Plan.\" class=\"wp-image-1766267187288\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take part in the Impact Assessment of the Deep Geological Repository for Nuclear Fuel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of important community engagement events and consultations will be taking place from April 14 &#8211; April 22, 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nwmo.ca\">Nuclear Waste Management Organization<\/a> (the NWMO) is proposing a new underground deep geological repository system designed to safely contain and isolate used nuclear fuel. Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation (WLON) and the Township of Ignace have been selected as the host communities for the proposed project, which is located 21 kilometres southeast of the WLON and 43 kilometres northwest of the Town of Ignace, Ontario along Highway 17. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As proposed, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaac-aeic.gc.ca\/050\/evaluations\/proj\/88774?culture=en-CA\">Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada&#8217;s Used Nuclear Fuel Project<\/a> would provide permanent storage for approximately 5.9 million bundles of used nuclear fuel. The project is expected to span approximately 160 years, encompassing site preparation, construction, operation and closure monitoring.
