DESCRIPTION:Melgund Recreation\, Arts and Culture and Art Borups Corners will host this year’s Spring Arts Exhibition\, taking place from April 19 to May 17\, 2026\, at the lower-level art gallery and heritage space of the Dyment Recreation Hall. This exhibition offers a vibrant opportunity for local and regional artists to showcase their work and for community members to engage with the arts. \nWe are inviting local and regional artists to submit original works in any medium\, including visual arts\, mixed media\, digital art\, photography\, or sculpture. Selected pieces will be featured throughout the exhibition\, providing a platform to share your creativity with the broader community. \nVolunteers are also welcome to support the exhibition. Tasks include helping with installation\, gallery monitoring\, assisting during events\, and engaging with visitors. DESCRIPTION:On April 22\, 2026 the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada will host an Open House information session on the NWMO Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project.\n\n\n\nA community open house will take place on Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dyment Recreation Hall\, offering residents a chance to learn more about the federal impact assessment process for the proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project. \n\n\n\nThe Open House will feature presentations by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC)\, followed by a relaxed open-house period where attendees can explore information\, ask questions\, and speak directly with staff. The goal is to create a comfortable and informative environment for community members of all backgrounds. \n\n\n\nThis session comes at an important time\, as the assessment process has entered a new phase following the recent decision to proceed with a review panel. Community input will be sought on how the assessment should be carried out and how people can participate effectively. \n\n\n\nThe upcoming draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and the draft Public Participation Plan will be central to the discussion. We greatly appreciate their support. \n \nAbout the Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project\n\n\n \nThe Nuclear Waste Management Organization (the NWMO) is proposing a new underground deep geological repository system designed to safely contain and isolate used nuclear fuel. Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation (WLON) and the Township of Ignace have been selected as the host communities for the proposed project\, which is located 21 kilometres southeast of the WLON and 43 kilometres northwest of the Town of Ignace\, Ontario along Highway 17. As proposed\, the Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project would provide permanent storage for approximately 5.9 million bundles of used nuclear fuel. The project is expected to span approximately 160 years\, encompassing site preparation\, construction\, operation and closure monitoring. The project assessment is being conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Running from September 1 through October 30\, the gallery features a diverse collection of photography and fine art created within our arts incubator land lab and community garden. The collection serves as a visual record of the season\, documenting the specific biological life—from pollinators and insects to native flora—that defines our local ecosystem. \nBeyond the static displays\, the exhibition functions as a community hub for environmental and artistic education. We have scheduled a series of presentations and guest speakers who will provide context on the creative process and the ecological importance of the subjects on display. These sessions offer a deeper look at the year’s progress\, explaining how the land lab and gardening programs informed the technical and conceptual development of the artists involved. \nIf you are interested in the technical side of nature photography or the growth of our recreational community programming\, this exhibition offers a direct look at the intersection of local art and environmental stewardship. Admission is open to the public throughout the two-month duration\, providing ample opportunity to see how our participants have translated a season of growth into a professional body of work.
