This is the month we’ve all been waiting for, and working towards since our pilot program began last November!
Inuit Studies Conference starts in less than three weeks!
Auviqsaqtut is the 22nd Inuit Studies Conference and it will be held June 19-21 at the University of Winnipeg, Qaumajuq and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. It’s not too late to register for our public presentation here.
This month we are super excited to be able to host our final results sharing workshop of our pilot program, showcasing some of the work that has been done to establish our incubator program and to come together and learn from each other.
The original date for Auviqsaqtut was in April, but unfortunately the event was cancelled due to the pandemic. Fortunately for our project, the conference was only postponed and was moved up until this month. Our hybrid session will see us connecting with Minneapolis, Montreal and beyond. We will also have special guests coming in from Tuktoyaktuk, NWT and we look forward to meeting them.
Volunteers and participants needed for our June 19-21 Workshops and the Inuit Studies Conference
We already know we are going to be short several team members due to grade 12 graduations and related events happening that same week. We’re looking for additional volunteers who’d be willing to join in. They don’t need to be experienced or familiar with what we’ve been doing because our public presentations and exhibition this month is going to be introductory and explain a lot.
Please let Jamie, Olaf or Jude at the Arctic Buying Company front desk if you know someone who would be interested. There will be no registration costs required as we have funding available for our graduating students who will not be able to attend. We need to register people before June 14 so we can plan. Parents and grandparents are especially encouraged to join in.
Summer Incubator Program Workshop Schedule
Our Summer Incubator Program starts next week and we will be hosting a lot of our activities in the week before and after the Inuit Studies Conference. We have visits planned to the media lab at the University of Winnipeg to check out their virtual reality and digital creation spaces. We’ll be able to meet some of the collaborating researchers from the newly-announced Canada-Inuit Nunangat-United Kingdom Research Programme and most importantly, build deeper relationships and new connections for our arts-related entrepreneurship programming.
