This year a small, grassroots arts hub in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba is revolutionizing Northern arts and community research fusing art and AI. From skills to streamlining administrative tasks, empowering youth with gamified learning, and creating digital archives, this innovative program is building the next generation of leaders while addressing complex local issues with cutting-edge technology.
Emerging artists in Winnipeg and Minneapolis have been stepping beyond traditional studios to address critical issues like food security and climate resilience through experiential learning. By combining hands-on practice with creative reflection, they’re using art as a powerful tool for community transformation while gaining invaluable real-world skills.

We’re thrilled to unveil one of our flagship projects for this year—an innovative short course that brings together art, data, and technology in bold and transformative ways. “Arts, Data, and Immersive Storytelling” is a hands-on program that pushes the boundaries of how we interpret and communicate complex data through artistic expression and cutting-edge tools like OpenAI’s APIs and Three.js.
This fall and winter, we’re focusing on rebuilding capacity in rural and northern arts organizations through innovative curriculum design. By revisiting foundational practices from our 2021-2022 incubator, we’re strengthening frameworks for self-determination, resilience, and sustainability. Through seasonal themes, we’re equipping programs and communities with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly challenging ecosystem.
Exploring new ways to integrate art, culture, and sustainability, the team behind the Arts Borups Corners collective is gearing up to relaunch their living lab in 2025.
In the coming months, our project team members will be reaching out, building relationships and engaging with organizations, programs and models that can help inform the design and development of a professional commercial kitchen, Indigenous “food lab” and outdoor “living lab” community garden.
