This year, thanks to Manitoba Agriculture, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Skills program, we’re learning about digital and data literacy for the food sector. Our mission? Communicate success stories! But it’s also about having fun with these amazing new AI tools and resources that have been provided to us thanks to the OpenAI Researcher Access Program! We’re learning so much!
Last weekend, we were concentrating on creating engaging food photography prompts using DALL-E 3 as part of our food literacy and entrepreneurship programming. This summer, one of our goals is to design and refine detailed prompts to generate high-quality, visually appealing images of food like cheeseburgers and other items.
Our project tries to schedule our activities on Fridays so that we can do more “fun” activities than just research and data all the time. And since we’ve had so much fun learning about generative AI and food advertising we got to thinking about starting to post our favourite images and the prompts we used to make them each week moving forward. We’ve learned from other people, and now we want to share with those who might also want to learn more about how we made them.
One of our digital literacy and food entrepreneurship goals this year is to learn how to capture various aspects of food presentation, including classic, gourmet, and themed settings, and how AI tools can be used to enhance food marketing materials. This involves learning to specify ingredients, arrangements, and backgrounds. This is a great way to explore digital literacy and creativity. What kind of food product would you design?
Here’s the prompt we used: “Capture a mouth-watering close-up of a classic cheeseburger with a perfectly grilled beef patty, melted cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato slices, and a dollop of creamy mayonnaise. The burger should be served on a toasted sesame seed bun. Highlight the texture and layers of the burger, focusing on the melted cheese and fresh ingredients. Include a side of golden, crispy fries and a refreshing soda in the background to complete the classic diner experience.”
Don’t like cheeseburgers? Try generating chicken burgers instead!
Here’s the prompt we used: “Create a close-up, mouth-watering photograph of a chicken burger featuring a perfectly grilled chicken patty topped with melted cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, and a slice of ripe tomato. The burger should be served on a toasted brioche bun with a light spread of mayonnaise and a hint of tangy pickles. Place the burger on a rustic wooden plate with a side of golden, crispy potato wedges and a small bowl of dipping sauce. Use natural, warm lighting to enhance the texture and colors of the burger, highlighting the juicy chicken and fresh ingredients. Include a subtle background of a casual dining setup or a picnic scene to add context and appeal. add some film grain.”
