This past month in Youth, Arts, and Media, we found inspiration in nature, observing the growth of raspberry bushes and beans, symbolizing personal growth and patience. Canada Day and the Fourth of July were celebrated with joy and a renewed sense of purpose. We also updated the artsincubator.ca site from our original pilot program.
With the first year pilot phase of Niriqatiginnga complete, the Youth, Arts and Media Team are starting to focus more on participatory organizational development and the next phases of their journeys. Capacity for non-profits and community groups, particularly with northern communities, has been a struggle and the next semester will see programs and project teams coming together more and strengthening our networks.
This month we’ve been working hard on upgrading and updating our platforms so that we are better able to communicate. Since we updated our web site in February 2024, our traffic has increased substantially. This month, our programs saw more than 6,200 visitors and generated more than 51,900 impressions. Since February, our platform has been visited more than 34,600+ times and generated more than 348,000 impressions! Congratulations team!
No Risk. No Story.
This month we’ve been reflecting on the importance of taking risks for compelling stories and the power of optimism in gardening. Additionally, we emphasized the significance of protecting Indigenous Cultural Expressions and celebrated Canada Day. We also revisited impactful learning materials from John Hammock and the Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative and Atii! Let’s Do It food security projects, highlighting their role in policy and communication.
On June 28, we met with the amazing and inspiring team with Manitoba Agriculture’s Food Development Centre. This was really helpful as we have wanted to go further into our food production project that has been in the works for almost two years now. We got a lot of great ideas from them, and it’s helping us identify what we need to plan for moving forward. We really want to see more relationship development and engagement among our groups and a big plan is to host a workshop together in Portage La Prairie. More to come on that as we start to organize this fall!
On July 5, we met with MCAD to re-cap the last month’s amazing Arctic Congress experience in Norway and to start planning activities for the fall semester. On July 22, the Youth, Arts and Media team met with Global Dignity Canada and LembasWorks to start planning out the year’s activities. This session will be followed by another planning session set for August 16, with students and programs with the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and Manitoba-based Niriqatiginnga. All are welcome.
