Melgund Township, October 11, 2024 – The Local Services Board (LSB) of Melgund held its monthly meeting on October 9th, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Community Hall. The meeting was chaired by Janet Connor, with board members Morris Robinson, Pete Dunham, and Terri Bell, and Michelle Robinson in attendance.
A key highlight of the meeting was the confirmation of the 2024-2025 Chairperson and board members. Janet Connor was reappointed as Chairperson, and Morris Robinson and Pete Dunham will continue their roles as board members for the upcoming year.
The meeting also addressed a number of community updates and decisions. The Fish Derby held earlier in the season was deemed a great success, with special thanks going to the cooks, organizers, and participants. Congratulations were extended to Cayleb Fava, who was named the winner of the derby.
There was discussion around the ongoing cookshack expansion and the purchase of tents, with the board awaiting funding approval for these projects. In the meantime, the board is also focusing on infrastructure improvements. New handicap parking signs have been purchased and will be mounted by Morris Robinson for use at community events.
A garbage roster for 2024-2025 was posted on the message boards near the mailboxes. The board is calling on residents to help out by signing up for a month. Contact information is available for those who would prefer to sign up through the Secretary or a board member.
Additionally, a $200 increase to the Secretary-Treasurer honorarium was approved, recognizing the additional responsibilities carried out in the role. Terri Bell was officially reappointed as Secretary-Treasurer for the year through By-Law 10-2024, which was passed by the board.
The board also reviewed the B&M Delivery Quote for 2024-2025, which was accepted through By-Law 11-2024. In terms of winter preparations, the snow plow tender for the upcoming season will be posted on the message board, with tenders to be opened at the next meeting on November 18th, 2024.
The LSB extended their thanks to Dan Montgomery for his excellent work in maintaining the hall property. The grass cutting was consistently of high quality, and the board expressed appreciation for his efforts.
In other discussions, the board considered the future of the Dyment Community Website hosted by GoDaddy. A decision will be made based on the number of website views, with further discussions planned for upcoming meetings.
The 2024 Budget Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th, 2024, at 10:00 am at the hall. This meeting is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend.
Looking ahead, the Community BBQ is scheduled for Saturday, October 26th, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, offering burgers, hot dogs, and fries. The next regular LSB meeting will be held on Monday, November 18th, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the hall.
